Hearing loss is often gradual and so to it can creep up on us, this can go on for months or even years. Slowly our hearing worsens, and becomes more noticeable, hearing our friends, family and the TV becomes more of an effort and less enjoyable.
What most people don’t know about are the dangers of untreated hearing loss. Simply ignoring the problem can have a cost. There have been a number of clinical studies that show if a you have a hearing loss, but don’t have hearing aids, then the hearing system become deprived of stimulation which is known as Auditory Deprivation.
Research has shown links between untreated hearing loss and increased risks of social isolation, depression and even dementia. However the sooner hearing loss is treated the better the outcome and the easier it is to adapt to hearing aids. This keeps the hearing system active and healthy.The main thing is to get your hearing checked as soon as you suspect you have signs of hearing loss, don’t put it off.
